London 2012 appoints kitchen textiles licensee |
| The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games today confirmed that they have appointed Ulster Weavers Home Fashions Ltd to produce official London 2012 kitchen textiles.
Based in Holywood, County Down, Ulster Weavers were originally formed in 1880 and has held a Royal warrant since 1995. Its first London 2012 products will be in the shops from the end of 2010 and will include official London 2012 tea towels, aprons, oven gloves, tea cosies and textile bags. In 2011, this will be followed by official Team GB and ParalympicsGB supporter product across these categories.
The appointment of Ulster Weavers to produce official London 2012 kitchen textiles supports the already substantial London 2012 licensing programme through which vital revenue to stage the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be raised. Official London 2012 licensed products currently on sale include sportswear, die cast model vehicles and pin badges.
LOCOG Director of Commercial Negotiations Charlie Wijeratna commented, “We have had great support for London 2012 from the people of Northern Ireland so it is particularly pleasing to see this being reflected by businesses. Ulster Weavers join a growing team of licensees and we’re thrilled to have them on board. Buying Olympic and Paralympic souvenirs is a traditional part of all Games and a great way for people to show their support and enthusiasm for London 2012, TeamGB and ParalympicsGB.”

The cutest things for your Kitchen |
With an overwhelming trend to all things homely, the latest tea cosies from Ulster Weavers on www.ulsterweavers.com are causing quite a stir among the nation’s tea drinkers.
Chocolate polka dot piggies, flowery pussy cats and honeycomb bumble bees are proving popular beyond their key duty of keeping pots of tea warm, as the playful designs will also amuse adults and kids alike.
The funky shapes and fun colours sit just as well in contemporary kitchens as traditional ones and come with matching egg warmers and delicious waffle weave tea towels with perfectly matching (and very cute) embroidery. And with prices from just £4.99, they are an excellent idea for alternative gifts or just for fun. Available now on www.ulsterweavers.com05-May-09 |
ULSTER WEAVERS GO ONLINE |
Unleashing your inner domestic goddess is now only a click away at www.ulsterweavers.com.
After trading for almost one hundred and fifteen years in textiles, homeware and gifts, County Down-based company Ulster Weavers has finally made the move to online consumer sales of its globally popular home and giftware.
With huge successes in recent months such as the Terry Bradley bag (which sold out in a matter of hours when it was released in House of Fraser, Belfast) and a customer list which includes Rick Stein, the Royal Horticultural Society, the V&A Museum and the National Trust among others, the traditional company made the move after careful consideration of its own customer base.
Managing Director, Kenneth Webb said “We hesitated selling our product direct to consumers in the past because we simply didn’t want to conflict with our retail and e-tail customers who were doing just that, however we receive thousands of requests from consumers each year and recently we decided that only a branded and controlled website with a world-class distribution system would allow the end consumer to fully enjoy the ethos of the Ulster Weavers product and service. This investment highlights the belief in our product and our team who continue to develop globally popular designs.”
